In association with Bracknell News 2009

Cindy Alexander, 29, had long dreamt of being a model but sadly her lack of confidence prevented her from turning this dream into a reality.

When Cindy, who has a two year old daughter, saw the £20,000 makeover in the Bracknell News, she knew it was the ideal opportunity to improve her self esteem and finally achieve her dreams as she explains:

‘I can’t remember the last time I smiled in photographs. I’ve always been self-conscious about my teeth and they are partly the reason I never had the confidence to follow my modelling ambition.

‘Having a baby also lowered my self esteem. Being at home all day made me feel very isolated and meant I didn’t have the status which comes with a job which in turn led to a lack of confidence in the wider world. With Isabel due to start nursery in January, winning this competition has given me the confidence I need for the new phase of my life.’

As well as dental treatment from the Appledore Clinic in Binfield, Cindy will also receive personal training from Absolutely Fabulous, enjoy sessions with Maximise personal styling and Regis hairdressers in Bracknell before choosing the perfect outfit from Bentalls in Bracknell. Photographer John Cassidy will then capture Cindy’s new look on film when it is unveiled – perhaps the first of many modelling assignments!

Makeover winner Appledore Milton Keynes 2009

Winner: Christine Cooper

In association with Milton Keynes Style Magazine 2009

Nominated by her mum for the makeover competition worth £20,000, Christine Cooper, 46, has had a tough few years as both her parents have fought cancer, she was made redundant and battled depression, but Christine is now eager to get her life back on track as she explains:
‘I was once the IT director of a law firm but after losing my job, I stopped wearing make up and dressing up as I didn’t feel I had to impress anyone. I’m hoping the makeover will give me back the confidence I need to return to the workplace.’
As well as extensive dental treatment from Appledore, Christine will be working with personal trainer Simon A Williams to get in shape before meeting. A sassy new hair cut from Hensmans and stylish outfit from John Lewis in Milton Keynes will complete her new look before she is photographed by Laura Candler Photography.
Christine, who lives in Shenley Lodge with her two children and husband Chris, works from home where she runs a small business selling reusable nappies.

The £10,000 Makeover - what and when:

A few years ago, Dr Day had the idea for a competition and talked to some of her business friends. They were quite keen but it took a number of meetings with many media representatives before she finally managed to secure The Bracknell News as a partner.

The lucky winner was Theresa Mercer.

Theresa (50), a grandmother who lives in Bullbrook, received a top to toe transformation worth £12,000 and is now brimming with confidence as she explains:

‘I feel as though I have been given a new lease of life and I definitely have a smile back on my face! It has given me the self-assurance I needed to get back out there and start mixing with new people.’

Over the course of the makeover, Theresa lost one and a half stone, a result of training sessions with Absolutely Fabulous and she met with Sharon Connolly from Maximise Group who advised Theresa on how to make the most of her slimmer figure. Dr. Teresa Day, from The Appledore Clinic, worked closely with Theresa to carry out extensive dental work including extractions, hygiene treatments, root canal work, tooth implants, crowns, whitening and fillings to give her a gleaming smile.

Theresa also received a range of beauty treatments from the Appledore Clinic including agera facials and peels to improve her skin tone and reduce wrinkles, intensive pulsed light sessions to clear up any sun damage and thread veins and eyebrow shaping to frame her face and complement her new hair style from Regis in Bentalls. The final touch was a photoshoot with leading photographer John Cassidy who was delighted to photograph a revived and very happy makeover winner!
